[Inspiration] A Skilled Manager Knows… Carrots Go Better in Soup (the Dangling Carrot Versus the Spark of Inspiration)

“What would become possible if you knew—actually knew for certain—that you could propel yourself and your company to your highest goals without any external motivators whatsoever? What if you knew your desired productivity from your team was undoubtedly attainable without the need to issue threats or bonuses? …that your excitement about your professional life could skyrocket without praise or a raise? …you and your team could be utterly satisfied and happy from within yourselves starting right now and that the company’s returns would show it?” Inspiration is contagious and more and more leaders are losing the dangling carrot and getting better results...

There’s so much talk these days about “motivation.” It seems that everyone is trying in some way or another to “get motivated” and “stay motivated.” We live in a world of external motivators, in which we often have our eyes on “the carrot”—whether it be the dangling reward of more energy, better health, a higher income, the respect of our colleagues, pats on the back from our team members or just plain happiness. Companies offer incentives in the form of vacations and monetary bonuses to employees who perform well and many parents live by a model that suggests that children should be rewarded for good behaviour and good marks at school. External motivators are everywhere.

And yet, what do you do when the carrot drops—when the external lures are no longer there? Have you really developed what you need within yourself to carry on, to reach your goals and exceed them amidst the constant change that surrounds you? Many people find that, more often than not, it is difficult to find the drive to push on and make all their great dreams and desires come to life from their own strength of will. And this challenge arises precisely because, not only have they allowed themselves to be motivated from the outside for so much of their lives, but also because, as a result of this pattern, they have defaulted into a belief system that tells them that they need external motivators.

People buy into the belief that they themselves need to be focussed on something outside themselves to keep their attention and draw them forward in life, and in turn that others (workplace teams, for example) require them to set up external motivators. Managers often perceive that this is what is expected of them—in fact some believe that it is a manager’s main purpose to steer the boat by way of the external lure—and they’re afraid to try another approach because the boat might never reach the shore.

And then there’s “inspiration”—similar to motivation, but so much more powerful. Inspiration comes from within. Even if you are inspired by something outside of yourself, it is “inspirational” precisely because it gives rise to something natural in you. Inspiration has powerful quality—it is the stirring of your amazement about life and what’s really possible. When you are inspired, you feel a strong connection to the big picture and you have a stronger sense of your place in it. In turn, your physical energy, your ability for positive, innovative thinking, and productivity increase exponentially.

Inspiration rises out of your connection with your personal mission on the planet and is dampened and deadened when your actions are not in line with your values. On the other hand, when you are taking action out of our own inspiration, you naturally inspire those around you, raising their natural desire to produce more and do so more efficiently and better in every regard— then you can put the carrots back where they belong—in the soup.

So how do you let go of the carrot and go about infusing the workplace and your life with inspiration? Here’s what some successful social entrepreneurs are doing, and it’s growing their initiatives and their personal satisfaction with life in ways they never dreamed were possible…

Top 10 ways to get inspired and stay inspired

1. Identify what brings you joy—what really, truly brings you joy—no matter what the judgments of others might be.

2. Make the radical commitment to engage in something that brings you joy every day and then do it.

3. Identify your values and rate their importance, through working with a life or business coach.

4. List your typical daily activities, hour by hour, and scrutinize them to discover how many of them are in alignment with your values and how many of them drain your energy (low energy is contagious too—and your team will soon follow suit).

5. Eliminate 1 draining action you engage in at work per week and replace it with 1 energizing activity.

6. Identify what you wish were different about the world.

7. Engage every day, even in some apparently “small” way to bring this change about (there is no such thing as a “small” task when it comes to changing the world—it’s all profound). Keep a list of these activities and read it over at least once every week.

8. Keep an inspiration file on your computer. Make a note of any and every inspired, innovative and world-changing thought or feeling that you experience throughout your day.

9. Lose the “what if downs”—that is, those “what if” statements that describe everything that could (but had better not) go wrong. Replace them with “what if up” statements, such as “What if we secure the contract and our client sends us even more business?” Share at least 10 “what if up” statements with your team members per day and watch what happens.

10. Identify and list your personal carrots—those external things that keep you going. It’s okay to keep them dangling until you don’t need them any longer. As your inspiration increases, take some risks and attempt to take action without your external motivators. If you really cultivate a strong foundation of inspiration, you will notice your need (and your team’s need) for incentives decreases naturally and swiftly. Make note of the improvements in your mental and physical health and tell your colleagues about them.

[Entrepreneur] You Need A Good Idea To Be A Good Entrepreneur

Are you still mystified with what an entrepreneur is doing in his everyday life? Well, according to some people, entrepreneurs are great thinkers and so they must be spending most of their time thinking of what new things they can offer to the world. This may be true and if you're a beginner in the field of entrepreneurship, you have to get the best entrepreneur idea guide to get you started.

Entrepreneurs are generally business people. However, this is only half of who they really are. You see, entrepreneurs are also idea thinkers and deal makers. Through the available or existing circumstances, an entrepreneur can uncover new ideas and then turn them into a good deal.

Many entrepreneurs hardly ever concentrate on one business venture. THheir primary aim is to earn money so will try to venture into all kind of businesses as long as it provides a profit.

The business ideas created by a certain entrepreneur are often found in archives. This is because some business ideas may not be feasible at present and so they keep it for future use or reference. Those business ideas which have higher market feasibility are investigated further and if in case the entrepreneur decides to act on the idea immediately, he will put such ideas to work and earn money.

Feasibility studies are vital to every business venture. From the idea, the entrepreneur thinks of certain services or products and formulates questions. Oftentimes, the entrepreneur conducts surveys to potential customers and he meticulously records all the responses. The documentations made can be used by the entrepreneur once he secures capital from financial backers.

If the entrepreneur have the capital to finance the said business idea, then it will be good for him because he will reap all the profits. However, most entrepreneurs prefer to seek assistance from financial backers so that their decisions will not be affected by their own vested interest.

Different interest groups will look into the business ideas provided by the entrepreneur. If anyone from the group is willing to finance the business proposal, then they will have to contact the entrepreneur. The business deals are usually carried out together with a lawyer so that everything will be formal and documented. Once the ideas are backed, the entrepreneur will start earning money. If the business idea proves to be successful, more money will come rolling in for the entrepreneur.

Being an entrepreneur is hard especially for beginners. However, with diligence, hard work, patience, knowledge, and a whole lot of other qualities, even you can become a successful entrepreneur.

At present, many entrepreneurs are into internet business. One reason is that many internet businesses are potential money makers and are not hard to handle. If you want to become an internet entrepreneur, make sure that you conduct your own research about it and how it is done. As beginners, you have to have to gather as much information as you can for the success of your chosen field.

Now that you know everything starts with an idea, you can already determine if being an entrepreneur is what you really want in life. Some say that if you want to become a successful entrepreneur, you have to be born with the characteristics of one.

However, you can work things out as you grow older and learn new things. So don't get discouraged and try really hard if you're determined to become an entrepreneur.

[Entrepreneur] Becoming an Entrepreneur - 10 Mistakes That Will Kill Your Transition From Executive to Entrepreneur

As the recession continues to loom and as unemployment rises, we have seen an increased interest in executives wanting to start their own businesses. They want to transition from executive to entrepreneur.

You may be interested in becoming an entrepreneur because you lost your job, or because you have a great idea, or because you cannot find a job you are interested in.

Regardless of the reason, however, you will find there is more information available today concerning starting a business than the average human being can consume in a lifetime. Standard advice includes:

* Prepare a solid business plan
* Have cash for at least six months
* Work with a good accountant and attorney
* Understand your market
* Know your competition
* Have a marketable product or service

This is good advice indeed. But in our experience, business startup success or failure involves more than adhering to these maxims. Here are the things you need to pay attention to in order to avoid sabotaging your business success.

10 Mistakes That Will Hurt Your Chances of Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur

Entrepreneur Mistake #1: Letting fear immobilize you. We believe the number 1 issue that affects the success of a new business is fear of failure, fear of success, fear of criticism, fear of feeling unappreciated and fear of thinking no one will like your product, your service or you. Understand that fear can immobilize you. Learn to recognize it and deal with it.

Entrepreneur Mistake #2: Failure to develop real relationships. Nothing happens until a relationship is formed. No meeting, no sales opportunity, no business. Take the time to build a relationship, and then you are ready to sell.

Entrepreneur Mistake #3: Failure to respond quickly. The quicker you respond, the more responsive you appear. E-mails not returned in days, voice messages ignored, and proposals or sales agreements delayed show that you don't care about your prospect's business. Forget the absurd advice that a quick response makes you look eager or desperate for the business. It makes you look - responsive.

Entrepreneur Mistake #4: Becoming a pusher. Nobody likes a pusher. So when your buyer says "yes" - stop selling. And don't up-sell, which is getting the buyer to buy more than they need. It's great for short-term profits and terrible for a long-term relationship.

Entrepreneur Mistake #5: Quitting at no. Nobody likes rejection, but sometimes we see it when it's not there. No is often an initial response to someone the buyer doesn't know, not a conclusion. Or, it can come from a gatekeeper whose job it is to say no.

Entrepreneur Mistake #6: Getting stuck in perfection. There is no such thing as the perfect proposal, the perfect letter and the perfect response. Good is often good enough unless you are dealing with life and death situations, which most of us are not. The extra 20 percent you put into your product, service, response is neither recognized nor appreciated by the recipient. But the fact that it took you too long to respond is recognized and not in a good way.

Entrepreneur Mistake #7: Wearing your personal beliefs on your sleeve. No one cares about your opinions when you are in a sales situation. Your political, social, sports beliefs should stay with you.

Entrepreneur Mistake #8: Lack of focus. When you are not focused on your employees, clients and prospects it looks like you are not interested or that you are overwhelmed. When there is a lack of focus in your organization, it looks like a version of the fad of the month which quickly blows morale as staff struggles to juggle changing priorities and new initiatives.

Entrepreneur Mistake #9: No executive presence. Executive presence is not about just looking the part. Executive presence is about being the part. It's about managing your image thoughtfully and not artificially. Like it or not, tired, overweight, out of shape and sloppy people who aren't aware of current events and haven't read a book since high school or college present a very different image than people who take care of themselves and are intellectually curious.

Entrepreneur Mistake #10: Not showing gratitude. Becoming a success in your business never happens by yourself. Along the way there are people who share their advice, help you through the tough times, perhaps give you an introduction. Don't forget them when you become successful. Gratitude has a return.

These are very difficult economic times. Starting a new business can be exhilarating and very rewarding - personally and professionally. Yes you need a solid business plan, financing and a marketable product or service with a strong and compelling value proposition. But you need more. And, you need to start eliminating sabotaging behaviors that will kill your transition from executive to entrepreneur right now.

[Business Opportunity] Mengapa di Mall & Food Court Tak Ada Sate Kambing?

Mengapa di Mall & Food Court Tak Ada Sate Kambing?
Tuesday, 20 July 2010 12:58

[Entrepreneur] Inside the Mind of Million Dollar Business Idea

Inside the Mind of Million Dollar Business Ideas

From Darrell Zahorsky,

Million dollar business ideas have no boundaries, age limits, race restrictions, time lines, or economic class. They can occur when you least expect them.

For psychologist Roger Adams, it occurred during a midlife crisis and divorce. For management consultant Mercia Tapping, it happened after a 10-year battle with allergies and the search for a cure. Ruta Fox was a freelancer running out of work when she said "Ah" to her "Aha" moment. Searching for the million dollar business idea is less a product of business planning and market research and more born from observation and frustration.

The Aha! Effect

It's a flash of quick insight leading to an obvious answer, the proverbial light bulb moment, or eureka event. When it happens, your life will never be the same.

Roger Adams was burnt out and hated his job. On vacation in Huntington Beach, Roger was reminded of "a happier time watching the kids, working at the roller rink, and growing up as a kid around skating. Seeing kids going by on their in lines and skate boards and I thought there has got to be something new out there," reflects Adams.

It was then the proverbial light bulb over the head occurred. "I got this idea for a shoe you could walk and roll on," says Adams. He headed for the garage and started cutting up running shoes and placing wheels on them.

After putting together a few designs, Adams thought to put the wheel in the heel. Falling several times, Adams realized he had to stagger his feet to balance. "The fall and the getting up the 4th time is when the hair on the back of my head stood up and I had a vision like I never had before. I just knew this thing could be successful," says Adams.

The eureka moment led to the creation of the running shoe with a built in wheel and a new sport called heeling. Texas-based Heeling Sports Limited has grown rapidly with sales in over 50 countries and is on track to reach over $40 million in 2005. Heelys is now one hot international trend.

Outside Feedback

Sometimes it's the feedback from others that results in a million dollar idea. Mercia Tapping suffered from environmental allergies and attained the necessary knowledge to become allergy free. At a CEO meeting she noticed other allergy and asthma sufferers and shared her knowledge with the group. They called her a "walking consumer report" and said she should start a business around this.

"The outside world was telling me there was a business opportunity here. I always wanted a health care angle and noticed health was the most important gift. Health, what I had taken for granted, was more important than realized. I never clicked with allergies until my clients told me," said Mercia.

Tapping later founded the Allergybuyersclub.com to provide asthma, allergy, and sinus sufferers with a resource for health information and product purchasing. Rejected by venture capitalists, Tapping's business went on to $10.4 million in sales for 2004.

Unaware of Its Presence

At other times the million dollar idea may show itself to us but we are unaware of its presence. In the summer of 2000, while searching for a better job, Ruta Fox's friend asked her to find her a diamond pinkie ring. Ruta went out and bought one for her friend and one for herself. Others took notice and Ruta bought more rings. "I was selling rings to girls in their offices and coming home each day saying I've got to find a new way to make a living," states Ruta.

Since she used to be a copywriter, she came up with a name for the ring. Realizing the common denominator was that all the buyers were available and happy and there was no ring on the market that was specifically for them, Fox recalls, "I thought 'Wow this is such a big idea.' I realized I was onto something."

This "Aha" moment led to The Ah Ring, the ring you buy for yourself to wear on your pinkie when you're single. Fox formed DivineDiamonds.com and achieved $1 million in sales during the first year, after a jumpstart from Oprah.

The Verification Stage

The final and most important connection between a million dollar idea and a regular idea is the response of the marketplace. Even if others see it as a great idea, the consumer must want to buy it.

When the idea is right, the marketplace responds. Heelys were an instant hit with kids. The product took on a life of its own. Adams received a life changing phone call when his patent attorney (who lived next door to a venture capitalist) asked for a video of the kids using Heelys. Adams received a call from Capital Southwest saying, "My kids just saw your video and the first thing they said was 'Dad you have to buy this company'."

Allergybuyersclub.com founder, Mercia Tapping used the more formal route of verification. "I ran some focus groups for allergy suffers and that told me they wanted a one-stop web source with education and shopping," says Mercia.

The Ah Ring "really resonated with women. It had a great emotional connection with women. Don't wait for a man to buy you a diamond ring just buy one yourself. So many entrepreneurs try hard banging their head against the wall and it doesn't go. This just shows you when it's right, its just right," reflects Ruta. As a final verification, the ring ended up in the offices of "O, The Oprah Magazine" whose editors sent one to Oprah who loved the idea so much she included it in Oprah's favorite things.

Forget the Million

A common thread among all these entrepreneurs was realizing once they had the idea, the real work was just beginning. Having a million dollar idea is only part of the equation for business success. "Entrepreneurs ask what makes one successful? Are you passionate enough? Can you persevere enough to make it happen? It demands a certain determination," says Mercia.

Searching for the million dollar idea is a slippery endeavor. The best advice for those wanting a million dollar idea is to forget about the million dollar idea. The money winning idea is born out of a want for something more than money. The money is the means not the end. For Roger Adams it was the yearning for nostalgia of childhood. For Ruta Fox it was a new career from doctor's orders. Mercia Tapping desired a better way of life. Listen to your heart. The money is only secondary. In the end, the millions may never arrive but at least you pleased your heart's desires.

Generosity

The art of generosity has many secrets. One of its secrets is that instead of being generous to a person directly, be generous to those he/she loves. due to this, he/she will love you.

Opportunities to win people's heart do not come often..

[Inspiration] Sulfur miners at Kawah Ijen

Sulfur miners at Kawah Ijen

Last night (18/7) I watched television Program, the story of strong people, Sulfur miners from kawah Ijen, east java. How I was shocked with them. They lift around 70-90 Kg of sulfur on their shoulder from kawah ijen at +/- 2100 above sea level by walking through steep route to stock pile station at village downside the mountain. It takes around 3 hours by walking. Sulfur is valued about Rp 600,- for each Kg.

Madrisun is one among the strong men there. “Brain is not used here, is only power” . Early in the morning, he should go to kawah ijen by walking up the mountain from his village. At there, they must fight against cold air, and sulfuric gas. They danger their respiration by breathing the sulfuric gas. Madrisun, I don’t see an inferior character of him. Even he knows that people may not respect to his job. He is stronger among his friends. He can lift up 80-90 Kg in one trip, he is also able to perform two trip in a day.

I was just wondering, why they accepted this kind of very hard things to do. This is no doubt. They are very tough. Have they any other options of better job. It is hard job but they complain less…

Lesson from them, we are given the strength for life, no matter how hard life is. what it seems impossible to do, we do if we try. We should focus to our strength rather than weakness & do not complain. If we want to move forward, do it gently. Do not cheat and keep honesty. We have our own part to draw the world life. When wind direction bring severe sulfuric gas into their workplace, when nothing can be seen, they fear, confuse & they cough, they just scream to god & nature…they ask for wind changes its direction, they admire god, they praise to god. They don’t forget god…

[Inspiration] They did not Benefit

They Did Not Benefit

Someone asked “What is the ruling of suicide?” why did he want to commit suicide? He said, “Because I can’t find works. People do not love me. In fact, I am an utter failure..”, and thus he began to relate his long story in order to prove that he had failed to develop his interpersonal skills and was unsuccessful in utilizing his talents. This is a problem with many people. Why do some of us feel inferior? Why do we look at those at the peak of mountain while thinking of ourselves as unworthy of reaching that peak as they have, or even climbing it as they did.
The one frightened of climbing mountains
Forever lives in the ditches
Who will not benefit? It is the unfortunate one who surrenders to his own errors and becomes satisfied with his limited skills and says, “This is my nature. I have become too used to it now, I cannot change my ways. Everyone knows this is how I am. I can never speak like Budi does, or have a cheerful countenance like Joko has, or be universally loved the way Dedi is. that would be impossible”

Be brave and from now on be determined to utilize all abilities you posses. Be successful. Replace the frown on your face with smile, depression with cheerfulness, miserliness with generosity, and anger with perseverance. Turn your calamities into occasions of joy and your faith into a weapon!
You must be brave enough to determined and persistent on the development of your skills, and you must be willing to take advantage of your abilities and talents.

[Inspiration] How sweat is success after hardship

A successful person said :

" I was born poor and poverty stayed with me from the cradle. I knew the bitterness of asking my mother for a piece of bread when she could not even find a piece of dry crust to give me. I left home when I was ten years old and started to work when I was eleven. I studied for only one month of every year. After eleven years of hard work I acquired a pair of oxen and six sheep which earned me eighty-four dollars. I never spent a single penny in my life on pleasure; rather, I used to save every penny I earned from the day I grew up until I reached the age of twenty-one. I knew what real exhaustion was, and I traveled for miles to ask my fellow men to let me do some work so that I could earn a living. In the first month after I reached the age of twenty-one, I went to the forest, driving a cart pulled by the two oxen to cut firewood. I used to get up before dawn every day and I would continue working hard until darkness fell, just to get six dollars at the end of the month, and each one of those dollars looked to me like a full month on a dark night."

[Management] The Four Basic Steps in Planning

Planning is fundamental process and can be condensed into four basic steps that can be adapted to all planning activities.

1. Establish a Goal or set of Goals
2. Define the Present Situation
3. Determine Aids & Barriers
4. Develop a Set of Action

Establish a Goal or set of Goals
planning begins with decisions about what the needs or wants. without a clear definition of goals, we spread our resources too broadly. Identifying priorities and being specific about aims enable us to focus our resources effectively.

Define the Present Situation
how far are we falling short of our goal?what resources are available for closing the gap? only after the current state of affairs is analyzed can plans be drawn up to change future progress.

Determine Aids & Barriers
what factors in internal and external environments can help us reach our goal? what factors might create problems? it is comparatively easy to see what is taking place now, but future is never clear.

Develop a Set of Action
the final step in the planning process involves developing various alternative courses of action, evaluating these alternatives and choosing the most suitable , or at least the most satisfactory, alternative.

[marketing] some attack strategies available for challengers

Market challengers can choose among several attack strategies :

1. Price discount strategy : the challenger can sell a comparable product at a lower price. for this strategy to work, 3 assumptions must be fulfilled, first, the challengers must convice buyers that its product and service are comparable to leader's. second, the buyers must be sensitive to price different and fell comfortable about turning back on existing suppliers. third, the market leader must refuse to cut its price in spite of the competitor's attack.

2. Cheaper-goods strategy : another strategy is to offer an average or low quality product at a much lower price.

3. Prestige-goods strategy : a market challenger can launch a higher quality product and charge a higher price than the leader.

4. Product-Proliteration strategy : the challenger can attackthe leader by launching a larger product variety, thus giving buyers more choice more choice.

5. Product - Innovation strategy : teh challenger might pursue product innovation to attack the leader's position.

6. Improved-service strategy : the challenger can try to offer new or better services to customers.

7. Distribution-Innovation Strategy : a challenger might discover or develop a new channel or distribution.

8. Manufacturing-cost reduction strategy : the challenger might pursue lower manufacturing costs than its competitor through more efficient purchasing, lower labor costs, and more modern production equipment.

9. Intensive advertising promotion : some challenger attack the leader by increasing their expenditures on advertising and promotion.

A challenger rarely improves its market share by relying on only one strategy. its success depends on combining several principles to improve its position over time

[Inspiration] Do not cry over spilt milk

Some people believe that the traits they have been nurtured on, which they are recognized by and which have left a certain impression about them on the minds of others can never be changed. they surrender to this thought, just as person would surrender to the fact that he can not change his height or skin colour.

on the other hand, an intelligent person thinks that to change one's nature can perhaps be easier than changing his clothes. our nature is not like spilt milk that can not be scooped up again. rather, we are always in control of it and there are certain ways in which we can alter it, and even the way we think!

Put into practice whatever good skills you come across and you will be happy.

if you say to me, "I can not"
I would say to you, "At least try!!"
if you say to me, " I don't know how"
I would say, " Yes, you do!"

a point of view..
the hero is the one who goes beyond his ability to improve his skills, until he becomes able to improve, and perhaps even alter, the skills of others
